Stage 6 - Reign Of Terror
Winner of the war often uses terror and violence to maintain or gain order and control of the order of the people and any dissenters 1793 - King Louis XVI and his family were executed, thousands gather in Paris for the event -Robespierre formed the Committee for Public Safety as the people wanted a “republic of virtue” - Names of the months were changed and the day "Sunday" was changed - Everyone with royal sounding names were killed - The order of Kings and Queens on playing cards was changed - Spies were all over the country and ordered thousands of execution - Public executions were happening everywhere - In total, 40-50,000 people were killed Deaths were happening everywhere

Stage 7 - Thermidorian Reaction
Strong decisive leaders take power and bring the country back to normalcy 1794-1798 - Former members of the National Assembly turn on Robespierre and cause him to be executed - People become sick of the killing and disorder 1795 - The National Assembly writes a new constitution and much of the power given to intellectuals - A five-man directory was formed - Yet other countries still threaten France for fear of spreading revolution 1796 – Napoleon emerges The country didn't really recovery. Napoleon later declared himself 'emperor" and assumed the role of a dictator. Hence, the revolution didn't really change much. The Aftermath of the War
